New membership benefit will bring more members to WMS2023

The WMS Annual Congress is a meeting of minds from across the neuromuscular disorders community. From young researchers just starting their careers to those who have invested a lifetime in the field and are now retired, the Congress brings everyone together.

In recognition of the financial challenges associated with international travel and attendance at this kind of event, the World Muscle Society Executive Board has extended its fellowship programme. For the 2023 Congress in Charleston, South Carolina, the Programme Committee will award up to 100 fellowships of up to £2,000 to cover travel expenses.

The Programme Committee will select the recipients based on the quality of the abstracts submitted and the analysis of a brief biography provided during the registration process.

We have also expanded our fellowship categories to apply to more people. These are:

  • First time WMS Congress Attendee (will be verified).
  • Early Career Researcher/ clinician: Applicants should be in an early career phase, training or not yet in a definite established position. The maximum age for applicants is 40 years old (at the time of submission), indicated during abstract submission.
  • Travel fellowship for WMS members: WMS members interested in attending the Congress but find the registration fee and associated costs a barrier to in-person attendance.

To continue to celebrate the breadth of experience in our community, we are also offering at least two annual fellowships from the President's Fund for senior myologists who have been active in WMS in the past but are now retired and have constraints on their available funds.

For full details, including how to apply, please visit the Fellowships and Prizes section of the 2023 WMS Congress website.

Our aim is to confirm all fellowships by June 2023.
