Introduction

Dear Member of the World Muscle Society,

Founded 1995 by Victor Dubowitz, Luciano Merlini and Giovanni Nigro the World Muscle Society was one of the first societies dedicated to neuromuscular diseases. Remarkably its rapidly growing development conducted to a membership of more than 500 people.

This Society is involved in many initiatives including its annual congress and the reference Journal “Journal of Neuromuscular Disorders”.

Over time, it became the best and most famous muscle disease referent society due to its excellence for basic and clinical sciences in the field of muscle diseases.

In 2006, a little bit more than ten years after WMS foundation, I profited that WMS annual meeting was held in Belgium to join it for the first time in Bruges. Being organized by my colleague and friend Peter Van den Bergh, its wonderful program merging fascinating basic and clinical science topics, reinforced my conviction to orientate my career in the field of Myology.

Later, my interactions with the WMS increased over time including many bridges built with colleagues involved in the Society and my involvement in the organization of the annual congress in 2021 for the first time.

To take part as an Executive Board Member should be a unique opportunity for me to offer my time and experience for the world muscle disease community. My recent position as President of the 17th ICNMD International Congress on Neuromuscular Diseases, hosted in Brussels in July 2022, provided me the chance to acquire experience related to the construction of a world congress scientific program and about all the logistics and practical aspects. It also reinforced my worldwide network in the neuromuscular field.

Involving myself in WMS as an Executive Board Member, I would like to contribute to the continuous development of the Society including several priorities such as (1) to reinforce scientific exchanges, (2) to support educational programs, (3) to provide opportunities for young investigators and clinicians and (4) support novel developments for standards of care in clinical practice.

In the case you select me, it will be a huge honor and pleasure, endorsing that responsibility, to serve the neuromuscular community during the next three years.

Sincerely yours,

Gauthier Remiche
