At WMS 2025, we implemented our legacy token programme for the third year in a row. This initiative has gained popularity since its launch at WMS 2023 in Charleson, South Carolina, in the USA.
We designed the legacy token initiative to replace the single use items previously distributed at WMS Congresses. Instead of investing in bags and other items to give out to delegates, we decided to use the money to secure a lasting legacy in our host cities. Each year, we donate £10,000 to local good causes, selected by the Local Organising Committee.
In Vienna, for WMS 2025, our Local Organising Committee chose four local charities. These were:
Austrian Powerchair Football National Team
Marathon
Österreichische Muskelforschung
SMA Österreich
You can find more information about each of the charities and the work they do on the Congress website.
Throughout WMS 2025, delegates voted for which of the charities they wanted to receive their support by depositing their token in one of the four collection boxes. At the end of the Congress, we counted up the tokens in each box and can now announce how much money each of the charities will receive. In total, delegates deposited 1,069 tokens. The donations are as follows:
Austrian Powerchair Football National Team received 321 tokens and will receive £3,000
Marathon received 283 tokens and will receive £2,660
Österreichische Muskelforschung received 304 tokens and will receive £2,840
SMA Österreich received 161 tokens and will receive £1,500
