An update from our 2024 General Assembly

In Prague at our 2024 Congress, we held our 2024 General Assembly. Thank you to those members who were able to attend.

I started off by giving an update on our Congress. WMS 2024 was record-breaking in many ways. We had more registered delegates than ever before, awarded more fellowships than ever before and presented more posters than ever before after receiving a record number of abstracts.

We also built on feedback from previous Congresses to evolve some Congress sessions and develop new features.

Following my introduction, Gisèle Bonne, WMS Treasurer, gave an update on the WMS finances and Laurent Servais, WMS Secretary, gave an update on our current membership numbers.

After this, some of our committee leads took central stage. Lindsay Alfano updated the audience on the work of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee and their excellent work developing a strategy for the WMS and our updated Codes of Conduct and complaints procedure. Teresa Gerhalter did the same for the Sustainability Committee, announcing that we are to start working with sustainability consultants and seeking feedback and input from our membership.

Werner Stenzel provided an update on behalf of the Guidelines Committee, sharing the current approach and asking for participation in a survey on how members use clinical guidelines. And Rasha El Sherif spoke for the Myology Developments Across the World Committee about their aspirations to hear from more voices and shine a brighter spotlight on those countries and communities where myology is less well-resourced than in other areas. All our committees are welcoming new members and input.

I closed the meeting by sharing details of another survey. This time we would like to know what you think of our communications, which platforms we use, what kind of information we share and whether we are helping you make the most of your membership. We have shared links to both surveys below.

I wish you the very best.

WMS President

Watch the 2024 General Assembly

The General Assembly was live streamed to delegates who were unable to be in the room for the meeting. We have a recording of the stream available to anyone who would like to catch up on the detail of the meeting.

Whether you were registered for WMS 2024 or not, you can watch the meeting recording on YouTube using this link.

Take the Guidelines Committee Survey

In order to better understand how the Guidelines Committee can focus its work for the benefit of WMS members, they have created this short survey about whether and how you use clinical guidelines.

Please take five minutes to complete the survey to help inform the future work of the Committee.

Take the Communications Survey

Another area in which we're looking for your feedback is in our communications survey. We're keen to know how satisfied you are with your WMS membership and whether we're sharing the right information through the right channels.

This survey will take just a couple of minutes and help us make our communications better for you.

Codes of Conduct

With thanks to the EDI Committee, we have now updated our WMS Member Code of Conduct and our WMS Congress Attendee Code of Conduct.

We have been working with an independent human resources (HR) service provider to develop these documents alongside a new complaints procedure, which allows any complaints to be dealt with anonymously and independently.

We always welcome your feedback and ideas. If you have something to say about the WMS and our communications, please complete our short feedback survey.
