Since the creation of the World Muscle Society 30 years ago, our partner journal has been Neuromuscular Disorders, published by Elsevier.

Our founder, Victor Dubowitz was its first Editor-in-Chief and the most recent person to hold the position is Anders Oldfors. With Anders standing down at the end of this year, Neuromuscular Disorders (NMD) is looking for a new Editor in Chief.

The successful candidate will start officially on 1st January 2026, but will have the opportunity to benefit from a transition period from October 2025, while Anders is still in the role. The new Editor-in-Chief will also fill an ex-officio (non-voting) seat on the WMS Executive Board.

WMS President, Volker Straub said: “The position of Editor-in-Chief at NMD is a very important one. The journal serves as a platform for clinical academics and scientists to publish their research results from studies on neuromuscular diseases, including both acquired and hereditary conditions affecting muscles, the neuromuscular junction, or the lower motor neuron.

“The WMS works closely with the journal to make sure it reflects the needs and interests of our members and the Congress edition of NMD each year is an invaluable resource, enabling us to share the scientific content from the Congress with all our members, not just those able to attend.

“It would be great if the new NMD editor would come from among our community.”

The core responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief is to work with the journal’s Executive Associate Editor team and Editorial Board members, to overseeing the peer review process. They will also be expected to encourage the submission of original high-quality manuscripts, work with the publisher to develop and implement the journal strategy, and select new Editorial Board members as needed.

Elsevier is looking for someone with a distinguished record of scholarly contributions, a clean ethical record, strong leadership qualities, and the ability to collaborate constructively with those involved in the publication process.

A full job description and details of how to apply are included within the job listing on the WMS website. The deadline for applications is 30th June.
