On 30th September we celebrated Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD) Awareness Day. Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy is an umbrella term that represents several rare types of muscular dystrophy that cause muscle weakness in your shoulders, upper arms, hips and upper legs. LGMD is a chronic (lifelong) condition that affects people of all ages.

One WMS member who has been working on LGMD since early in the development of modern understanding of the causes and impacts of the disease is Bjarne Udd, a Finnish clinical neurologist and neuromuscular researcher. 

We sat down with Bjarne to ask him about his career, about developments in the field and about whether he has ever been tempted to leave Finland.
