The World Muscle Society’s secretary Laurent Servais has been enjoying a 10-year collaboration with colleagues in Romania.

Laurent, a professor of paediatric neuromuscular diseases at the MDUK Oxford Neuromuscular Centre, headed to Obregia hospital in Bucharest for a consultation of more than 50 patients.

Through the collaboration, six paediatric neurologists from Romania have been able to train in Paris, France and Liege, Brussels. This work has led to four research publications, as well as international clinical research projects getting underway in Bucharest.

Laurent said: “This consultation has been inspiring and impactful for all of us. The level of standard of care and diagnosis has greatly improved over the years.

“It would be great to replicate this model elsewhere in the world, for myologists who like to get away from their desks for a new perspective.”
