The 23rd Annual Asian Oceanian Myology Consortium (AOMC) Conference concluded successfully after three days of dynamic sessions, marking the consortium’s 25th anniversary. Hosted virtually from 6 to 8 November, this was the first time that the AOMC was hosted by Pakistan. Due to regional instability, the executive board decided to hold the conference online.
Under the theme ‘From Fundamentals to Cutting Edge Advances in Neuromuscular Disorders,’ the conference brought together 300 registrants (184 national and 40 international), 200 workshop participants and featured 22 international and two national speakers.
Two interactive workshops engaged neurologists and pathologists, with over 60 participants actively involved. Poster sessions showcased 80 accepted abstracts out of 117 submissions, highlighting innovative research. Awards went to studies on Centronuclear Myopathy, ADSS1 Myopathy, and Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy Type 1.
The programme featured 1.5 days of expert talks on neuromuscular disorders, covering topics such as inflammatory myositis, anti-synthetase syndrome, myasthenia gravis, and multifocal motor neuropathy, alongside advances in exon skipping therapy, congenital myasthenic syndromes, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), and mitochondrial myopathies. We were honoured to have Dr Ichizo Nishino and Dr Tahseen Mozaffer as the keynote speakers who spoke on “GNE myopathy- Emerging insights and Future Directions” and “Neuromuscular Manifestations of Multisystem Proteinopathy” respectively.
The event concluded with an Executive Board Meeting, setting the stage for AOMC 2026 to be held in Perth, Australia (3-5th June) and reaffirming the consortium’s commitment to advancing neuromuscular science in the region.
