Myositis, also termed idioathic inflammatory myopathies, is a group of different diseases affecting skeletal muscle and potentially other internal organs through autoimmune inflammatory processes. In the past years, a better understanding of the underlying immunologic processes has been gained. Comprehensive care of myositis patients requires an involvement of experts from various specialties, such as rheumatology, neurology, dermatology, pulmonary medicine, etc. In view of this, the International Myositis Society (iMyoS) was founded in 2019 following extensive discussions among global experts at previous Global Conference on Myositis (GCOM) meetings. Recognizing the need for an international umbrella organization dedicated to advancing the field of myositis, a call for volunteers was issued across major international networks, including Euromyositis and IMACS. In response, a temporary international steering committee of over 40 distinguished myositis experts from the USA, Europe, Australia, China, and Japan was formed. Through regular virtual meetings and an in-person gathering at the 2019 GCOM in Berlin, the steering committee developed the society’s foundational structure, determined its tax home, and established bylaws with the guidance of legal experts. The official inaugural meeting of iMyoS took place on September 30, 2019 in Göttingen, Germany. Key Activities and Initiatives iMyoS is committed to fostering scientific collaboration, education, and awareness in the field of myositis through the following activities: • Facilitating Information Exchange: iMyoS promotes communication among patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and relevant organizations through various initiatives, including governance meetings with international myositis-focused groups. • Educational Resources: The society develops and distributes written, electronic, and audiovisual materials to educate practitioners, patients, and their families about myositis.
